چکیده
The resolution of a conventional lens is governed by its numerical aperture (NA) while light-concentration ability f-number (f/#), both which are dependent on the diameter and focal length lens. Hence, these properties for inherently coupled. Here, we show that utilizing principle free-form broadband diffractive optical elements (BDOEs), can create ultra-flat able to concentrate incoming light over fixed different sized spots engineered in shape square. decouple NA f/# being independently control size input devices. Specifically, designed, fabricated, characterized three BDOE lenses operating visible band (450nm–750nm), each having 11.25, but with NAs 0.00075, 0.0067, 0.054, respectively. We further use simulations emphasize such decoupling possible even at much higher NAs. Experiments confirm achromatic focusing imaging. One exhibited depth-of-focus almost 2 orders magnitude larger than diffraction limit. Such eliminate need anti-aliasing filters could also be very useful focal-plane arrays large pixel sizes, where collection efficiency needs maintained. Furthermore, abandoning rotational symmetry, one achieve geometries spot, as square more closely match geometry sensor pixel.

Immersion Meta-Lenses at Visible Wavelengths for Nanoscale Imaging.
Immersion objectives can focus light into a spot smaller than what is achievable in free space, thereby enhancing the spatial resolution for various applications such as microscopy, spectroscopy, and lithography. Despite the availability of advanced lens polishing techniques, hand-polishing is still required to manufacture the front lens of a high-end immersion objective, which poses major cons...
متن کاملBroadband " Focus - Free " Terahertz Imaging Using Axicons
We report the use of axicons to achieve broadband "focus-free" imaging in transmission and reflection at terahertz wavelengths. We demonstrate how the use of a broadband terahertz source improves the resolution of the imaging system, and how by using time-of-flight data the axial position and dimension of objects within the large depth of field of the axicon (160 mm) could be determined.
متن کاملVisible light focusing flat lenses based on hybrid dielectric-metal metasurface reflector-arrays
Conventional metasurface reflector-arrays based on metallic resonant nanoantenna to control the wavefront of light for focusing always suffer from strong ohmic loss at optical frequencies. Here, we overcome this challenge by constructing a non-resonant, hybrid dielectric-metal configuration consisting of TiO2 nanofins associated with an Ag reflector substrate that provides a broadband response ...
متن کاملBroadband polygonal invisibility cloak for visible light
Invisibility cloaks have recently become a topic of considerable interest thanks to the theoretical works of transformation optics and conformal mapping. The design of the cloak involves extreme values of material properties and spatially dependent parameter tensors, which are very difficult to implement. The realization of an isolated invisibility cloak in the visible light, which is an import...
متن کاملFractional free space, fractional lenses, and fractional imaging systems.
Continuum extensions of common dual pairs of operators are presented and consolidated, based on the fractional Fourier transform. In particular, the fractional chirp multiplication, fractional chirp convolution, and fractional scaling operators are defined and expressed in terms of their common nonfractional special cases, revealing precisely how they are interpolations of their conventional co...
